About Belmont Falls

Belmont Creek near Waratah is home to a spectacular unnamed waterfall, 25-30 metres high and even further across, leaping off the edge of Belmont Plains into a rainforested gully. The falls are little known and rarely visited with no track constructed to reach them, however for experienced hikers are well worth the effort to seek out with relatively open rainforest to navigate to the falls.

To reach Belmont Falls, turn onto Belmont Road from the Murchison highway, then make a right turn onto a spur road less than 1km down Belmont Rd. Follow this unsealed, but well constructed spur road until its end, where there is a convinient pullout to park in and the hike begins. Push through a small amount of overgrowth and look for a large old tree stump at the end of the road, then head into the rainforest in a northwesterly direction. The walk takes you through gorgeous, open, mossy rainforest eventually leading towards Belmont Creek and following the bank downstream to the top of the falls. To reach the base of the falls, head a little further around the western side and zigzag down. The descent is slippery and steep in places, but generally not too technical and it is not long before you come out below the impressive wall of water of Belmont Falls.

As of June 2026, the route to the falls was well marked with pink ribbons, but these may not last and should not be relied upon. A GPS is likely to be required for the rainforest portion of the hike where navigation may be challenging in the absence of markers.

The photo on this page was taken after rain in winter, and the winter and spring months are the best time to visit the falls to see them at their best spreading across the full width of their cliff. In summer Belmont Creek slows to a trickle and the falls are far less impressive.
